What is NHPA?
In May 6, 2004 National Health
Professionals Alliance (NHPA) for tobacco control was founded, and in May
18, 2004 - formally registered. NHPA comprises the following member
organizations of medical specialists: Georgian Medical Association, Georgian
Internists' Association,
Georgian Nurse Association,
Georgian Pharmaceutical
Association,
Georgian Society of
Atherosclerosis,
Georgian Women Doctors Association,
Georgia Family Medicine Association, Georgian Association of Stomatologists.
Main goals of the NHPA:
Coordination of efforts of professional associations for tobacco control;
Involving tobacco control in Public Health agenda at
the governmental level;
Supporting government for FCTC ratification and implementation; Influence on
universities and other educational centers for including tobacco control in
teaching process through continuing education curricula and other learning
programs; Coordination to European political initiatives and tobacco
control process in Georgia; Support
WHO policy in Tobacco control.
Alliance for Tobacco Control (NHPA)
jointly with
other relevant NGOs conducts
monitoring activities in medical facilities to make sure about following
legal requirements on
smoking
restriction.
